Service Description

Welcome to our 6-week clay wheel course! Whether you're a beginner looking to explore the wonderful world of pottery or an intermediate artist seeking to refine your skills, this course is designed to inspire and guide you through the exciting journey of clay wheel throwing. Over the next six weeks, we will embark on a creative adventure together, discovering the art of shaping clay on a pottery wheel. I will provide a supportive and engaging learning environment, ensuring that you gain the knowledge and techniques needed to bring your clay creations to life. Each class will run for 2 hours each week, with 4 people per class for a more intimate learning experience. PLEASE NOTE: I will be away Thursday 5th September, so we will be finishing up a week later instead (26th September!!! ) Week 1 - You will learn how to prepare the clay to be thrown (wedging) - What tools you'll be using and how they can help the process. - How to centre clay. - First we throw 4 mugs of pre wedged clay on the wheel - Demonstration of how to achieve different shapes and structures. Week 2 - Trimming a form - How to add texture or anything decorative - Second lot of throwing different shapes and structures (4 bowls) Week 3 - Second lot of trimming - Pulling handles and attaching - Add on any external decorative pieces - Throwing 2 large vessels on bats+ 1 base to join to your pedestal bowl. Week 4 - Third lot of Trimming - Joining your 2 large forms to make your vase - Adding on any tissue transfers to previous pieces. Week 5 - Rolling out top of pedestal bowl and joining to base. - Debrief on underglazes / glazes. - All vessels to be bisque fired. Week 6 - Glazing using different techniques 6-8 small - medium vessels + 2 large vessels All pieces to collect once final firing is complete. Sign up now and let's start shaping clay together!
